Research Interests

I am a comparative physiologist interested in how aquatic organisms deal with changing and sometimes stressful environments. Research by my lab has mainly focused on the response of fish to low oxygen (hypoxia), an increasingly serious threat to aquatic ecosystems. Much of our work deals with how energy metabolism is affected by low oxygen availability, and we explore this question using whole-animal and mitochondrial respirometry, biochemical and molecular analyses, and comparative approaches.
