About
Dr. Oscar Varela served as a professor of finance during a 41-year career at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP, 2007-2021), the University of New Orleans (UNO, 1982-2007) and Colorado State University (1980-1982), and taught finance in executive and specialized programs at universities in Austria, Chile, Jamaica, and Scotland. He held the Charles R. and Dorothy S. Carter Chair in Business Administration during his 14 years at UTEP. He is now an Emeritus Professor of Finance at UNO and an Emeritus Professor of Economics and Finance at UTEP. Dr. Varela, a CFA with the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (since 1987), earned his Ph.D. in finance at the University of Alabama (1981). His research in international finance, corporate finance and investments in numerous articles in academic journals recognizes him as a Prolific Author in Finance.
