LSU New Orleans Transition – Staff FAQ

HR/Benefits

  • Will staff be required to reapply for their current positions? (Staff)

    No.

  • Will staff be considered new employees, and will they therefore be on probation? (Staff)

    No.

  • Are staff job titles expected to change? (Staff)

Some titles may change once we are in LSU’s Workday due to position mapping. Additional information will be shared when we have it.

  • What staff positions will be eliminated? When will staff be informed? (Staff)

At this moment in time, no more positions have been identified to be eliminated.

  • For staff salaries, will the LSU system/pay grade take precedence over the current LSU New Orleans pay grade system? (Staff)

We will not be updating pay scales until we are in the LSU Workday tenant.

  • Will the transition affect the pension of LASERS retirees? (Faculty, Staff and Retirees)

Mandatory state retirement (TRSL, ORP, LASERS) contributions will not change, nor will retirement pensions of LSU New Orleans retirees.

  • What will the transition mean for LSU New Orleans contract employees (such as the Medicaid Technical Services Contract with the Louisiana Department of Health)? (Staff)

Same employee changes as campus employees regarding insurances, supplemental retirement, LSU leave accrual for eligible employees, and educational privileges.

  • Will annual raises be granted to staff moving forward? (Staff)

If we can afford them, then we will design a merit-based system. (For contract employees, if increases are approved in current contract.)

  • Will staff remote work arrangements continue? (Staff)

That depends on the unit and functionality of the position and current policy. (For contract employees, remote work agreements are not changing.)

  • Which holiday calendar will apply? (Staff)

The staff holiday calendar will follow the same holiday schedule as LSU Health New Orleans. (For contract employees, we will continue to follow the State Holiday Calendar like usual.)

  • What will happen to unused LSU New Orleans vacation/sick leave? Will it transition over to LSU or will staff have to start over with accumulating time? Will unused leave be lost after July 1? (Faculty and Staff)

All annual and sick leave balances will move seamlessly to the LSU System with no loss or reduction of leave balances. Any unclassified compensatory leave balances will be cleared on July 1, 2026. Eligible unclassified employees will continue to be able to earn and use compensatory time until July 1, 2026.

Facilities/Campus

  • Will on-campus parking change? Will employees be required to buy a parking pass? (Faculty and Staff)

It is likely that faculty and staff will be required to purchase a parking pass. When that is decided during budget preparation, the campus will be informed.

  • When will employees affected by the closure of the Liberal Arts Building receive guidance for their relocation? (Faculty and Staff)

Faculty are currently touring future options with Facilities, and when decisions are made, they will be communicated accordingly.

  • Will LSU New Orleans employees have access to the LSU Baton Rouge gym after the Transition? (Faculty and Staff)

Probably not, as each campus is its own self-sustaining operation, yet we can ask

  • If enrollment grows quickly will decommissioned assets (such as the Milneburg Hall and the Liberal Arts Building) be recovered to accommodate an increase in students? (Faculty and Staff)

That would be the ideal plan, yet decisions and timing will depend on the cost required to get buildings up to safety code standards.

Academics

  • When can employees expect to know what non-academic departments are going to be eliminated or have their staff reduced due to the transition and/or AI usage? (Faculty and Staff)

No departments are currently being eliminated. Any future AI capabilities will not eliminate positions, although they could change the scope of positions. Additionally, future AI tools will enable the campus to grow enrollment without having to grow a proportionate number of support roles, meaning AI tools should provide greater efficiency to avoid future costs and enable a better margin to allow for strategic investment.

  • What does the transition timeline and process look like for individual units, departments and academic programs? (Faculty and Staff)

We’re living the process, and we are projecting that any major impacts such as technology improvements will not be fully implemented until July 2028.

  • How and when will enrollment services be addressed? (Faculty, Staff, and Students)

It is being addressed now. We recently hired a new Director of Admissions and Recruitment and are actively looking at what additional positions are needed in places such as the Bursar’s Office.

  • What services will be shared with LSU New Orleans Health Services, and what is the timeline for this? (Faculty, Staff and Students)

There may be opportunity for shared academic programming immediately, yet LSU Health is undergoing its own transition to being more fully integrated into the LSU System, so this has not been a topic actively discussed.

  • What is the target date for FY27 departmental budgets to be communicated? (Faculty and Staff)

    No date has been identified.

  • What are the plans for increasing support in the Privateer Enrollment Center? (Faculty, Staff, and Students)

Feedback is encouraged for what improvements are needed.

Miscellaneous

  • Are we keeping Division 1 Athletics? (Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni)

This has yet to be determined.

  • Will the structures and responsibilities of the Staff Council and Faculty Senate change to align with similar groups in the LSU System? (Faculty and Staff)

This has yet to be determined.

  • How will LSU New Orleans Foundation Structure, Leadership and Fiduciary Responsibility change in the LSU system? (Faculty and Staff)

Both LSU New Orleans Foundation, which is currently amending its bylaws to be named LSU New Orleans Foundation, and the RTP Foundation exist to support this university. We will sign new affiliation agreements with both foundations and if changes are needed to better align the organizations, then we will implement those.

  • Will the words of the Alma Mater change? (Faculty, Staff, Students, and Alumni)

Currently, no one has proposed changing the words.

  • Will employees retain access to the apps currently available on the Apps dashboard after the transition to LSU? (Faculty and Staff)

Yes, as our migration into LSU’s Workday tenant will not be complete until July 2028.

  • Will LSU New Orleans Alumni Association be expected to align with similar groups in the LSU system? (Staff, Students and Alumni)

LSU New Orleans Alumni Association will be expected to support the New Orleans Privateers and will not be officially affiliated with any other LSU campus.
