Capstone Project

The Senior Electrical Engineering Design Project is a 3-credit course (ENEE 3092) open to graduating seniors only, in which the goal is to complete the design of an interdisciplinary engineering project. Projects are supported and sponsored by industry leaders.

Corporations who have previously sponsored projects include AT&T, Lockheed Martin, and MS Benbow.

A sponsor’s participation includes:

• Providing specialized equipment. (LSU New Orleans will provide standard electronic test equipment such as meters and scopes.)
• Presenting project details to student class during the first or second week of semester.
• Submitting the "Sponsor's Project Description" form no later than the first week of the semester.
• Every 2-3 weeks, attending an informal oral group presentation given by students to inform sponsor and instructor of progress being made and for general project update.
• At end of semester, attend the comprehensive oral report given by students, scheduled for the day of scheduled final exam. The final end-of-semester oral presentation is a formal presentation attended by student team members, other invited students, instructor, project sponsors, invited faculty, as well as members of LSU New Orleans EE Advisory Board.

The general goal of this course is to complete the design of an interdisciplinary engineering project. When practical, the design will be constructed or simulated. The Senior Electrical Engineering Design Project is a 3-credit course open to graduating seniors only. Students are expected to work on a team project that involves the use of engineering interdisciplinary skills with major emphasis on electrical/electronic subjects in order to complete a semester-long project. It is expected that computer tools will be used throughout the project. This includes numerical calculation, report writing, preparation of drawings and visual aids, programming software, project planning software, etc. Students are required to work on a project in which they will design, develop, troubleshoot, and implement a working device or process. Since graduating-senior standing is required, students will be required to implement analog, digital, programming, microprocessor skills, etc, as well as to work with other interdisciplinary subjects such as dynamics, chemistry, etc. when and if required by the project. In addition, students are required to work as team members and to be able to follow timelines and goals as set in the project. This includes attendance to group meetings, writing of reports, oral presentations to other members in the group, and the ability to work within project management flow guidelines and budget constraints.
