The spring 2021 issue of Silver & Blue magazine is now available.

The spring 2021 edition of Silver & Blue magazine is headed to your mailbox and is available around campus.

Our cover story features University of New Orleans student Samira Bechara, a dual French and international studies major, who created a culinary outreach project called Le Beirut to raise money for the victims of the Aug. 4, 2020 explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. Bechara’s father was born in Beirut and she spent summers visiting relatives there.

Speaking of outreach, you also can read about alumnus Henry Singer, a retired engineer, who has created a scholarship for UNO students looking to major in engineering or the sciences. Singer, who worked his way through UNO, says he understands some of the financial challenges students face.

Other highlights include how alumna April Dupré turned a passion for fitness into an entrepreneurial enterprise and how restaurateur Scot Craig’s life lessons helped steer his business through a global pandemic. Readers can vicariously experience the rare air of a Super Bowl title via alumnus Dan Crumb, the executive vice president and CFO for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

Meanwhile, on campus, see how UNO graduates were feted despite the pandemic, read about the innovative research our faculty and students are engaged in and celebrate the accomplishments of our student athletes, such as New Orleans Privateer catcher Jorge Tejeda and the record-breaking feats of the women and men track and field teams.
