LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Accounting at LSU New Orleans. I am extremely proud to be part of this highly impactful group. You won’t find a more dedicated group of accounting faculty anywhere.

The success of the Department of Accounting is the result of the combined efforts of our faculty, our excellent students, our highly active student accounting organizations, an active Accounting Advisory Council, and the loyal and continued support from our alumni and friends.

We are proud to be one of only 188 schools worldwide that has the prestigious separate AACSB International specialized accounting accreditation. LSU New Orleans, UL Lafayette, and Louisiana Tech are the only schools in Louisiana that have this supplemental accounting accreditation at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Further, LSU New Orleans is the only school in our state with this accounting accreditation and multiple accounting graduate degrees offered.

Our faculty is committed to providing excellent classroom instruction and advancing and disseminating accounting research by publishing in academic and professional journals and authoring textbooks. In addition, the faculty continues to serve the accounting profession, our state and community, and the University through active committee participation.

Since its inception in 1958, the Department of Accounting at LSU New Orleans has developed and maintained an excellent relationship with the academic and professional communities. We have an active Accounting Advisory Council consisting of 25 representatives from national, regional, and local public accounting firms, industry, and government. The Council deals with four areas: fund-raising, faculty development and retention, student recruitment and development, and program development and curricular matters. The Council serves as an excellent source of information and ideas. Each year, the Department of Accounting obtains over 80 scholarships and awards worth from $80,000 to $90,000 from endowed scholarships, accounting firms, corporations, and individual donors. These are awarded at the annual Spring Awards banquet. Students need to apply to obtain an award or scholarship.

Our graduates continue to influence the direction of the accounting profession at the local, regional, and national levels. Many of our alumni hold key positions in public accounting, industry, and government and not-for-profit organizations.

We could not do what we do without the generous support of our alumni and friends. Their investments of time and resources in support of our faculty and students allow us to continue our tradition of excellence in accounting education.
