College of Sciences Scholarships

The College of Sciences offers scholarships under three main categories, each with its own application. Most scholarships are awarded based on financial need and we strongly encourage all students to have a completed FAFSA.  Our scholarships have limited funding and are competitive; meeting the base qualifications does not guarantee an award. Many of our scholarships require students be enrolled at full-time status (minimum 12 credit hours) and remain in good standing for the award period. Recipients of scholarships may be required to acknowledge their award by writing a letter of thanks to the donor. Some scholarships are targeted to first-generation college students, meaning neither custodial parent or legal guardian has earned a college degree.

The application period opens annually in late Spring with scholarships awarded for the following Fall semester. We highly recommend students give considerable thought to the questions in the applications and write a draft for any requiring short answers before submitting the completed application.

Many of our scholarships are generously supported by alumni and friends of the College of Sciences. We are truly grateful for their dedication to our mission and for the meaningful role they play in helping our students reach their academic goals.

HealthCare Mentoring Scholarship

This scholarship is part of a grant awarded through the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, targeted to undergraduate students pursuing a bachelor of sciences degree and with a declared interest in a career in healthcare.  Recipients will receive $2000/semester towards costs of attendance for Fall and Spring ($4000 total/academic year), attend professional and career development workshops, and must serve as a peer mentor to 1-3 incoming students interested in healthcare. To be eligible, students must be a first-generation college student (i.e., neither parent or legal guardian has completed a college degree) and be enrolled in a 4-year degree and a sub-plan with a healthcare focus (Pre-Medical; Pre-Dental; Pre-Veterinary; Pre-Occupational Therapy; Pre-Optometry; Pre-Physical Therapy; and Pre-Physician Assistant). This scholarship can be retained as long as certain requirements are met and students remain in good standing.

Application

Amato STEM Scholars

Scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Sciences or the Robert A. Savoie College of Engineering, majoring in a STEM field. Award amounts may vary by recipient, and covers the costs of tuition, books, and fees until graduation. Preference will be given to candidates who are anticipated upon graduation to contribute to the Greater New Orleans community.  Selected candidates will exhibit high motivation to succeed and display determination necessary for achieving such success.  Recipients must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) for Fall and Spring semesters, and remain in good standing during the period of award or not be eligible for future awards.

Application

James Russell Theriot Scholarship

Scholarship to specifically support the educational needs of an undergraduate male student in the field of science. Up to 2 scholarships may be awarded annually, based on students’ financial need as well as demonstration of perseverance and strong desire to succeed. Selected students will receive full in-state tuition and fees.  Recipients must remain in good standing during the period of the award and be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) each semester.

Application

Science Scholarships

The College of Sciences has a number of endowed scholarships available to students, ranging from $500 - $1500. These scholarships must be used to cover cost of attendance such as tuition, books, and fees. In addition to donor-specific eligibility criteria for each award, the College is looking to help students with strong interests in sciences pursuing research experiences or other extracurricular activities, and to help students with financial need.
